Carbon Fiber
Race Diffuser for E92 / E93 M3
Some people in the automotive aftermarket
business still do not understand the
difference between "good enough" and
"perfect". Fortunately for Greg, the owner
of Challenge Engineering, he is perfectly
acquainted with "perfect".
After releasing a "good enough" pre-production version of the
Challenge diffuser at BimmerFest 2009, Greg
knew that what was good enough for some was
just not perfect for him. Although the
aggressive design of the diffuser, with it's
long and sharp fins was a great look,
creating the part proved to be quite
difficult indeed. The design of the diffuser
inherently led to a part that was difficult
to manufacture from one piece of Carbon
Fiber, and the early diffusers were of a two
piece construction. Although this worked, it
was not ideal, and the quest for a perfect
diffuser began.
Greg contacted three total production facilities who despite being
excellent in qualification could not build
the part correctly. After months of testing
and revision, a production partner of
Challenge Engineering was able to prove they
were up to the task. This facility, located
in the Midwest is a large manufacturer for
Indy car composite components, and was able
to create the Challenge vision of a perfect
part.
The final version features one piece construction, pre-preg carbon,
autoclave baking, and a truly perfect final
product.
For those who have the pre-production versions of the Challenge
diffuser (and have chosen to leave theirs in
bare carbon), your wait is over. Your
diffuser will be exchanged for the final
production version free of charge. Contact
